The Grand Shrine of the Nation is a name given to two separate shrines that have earned this distinction throughout history. The first was located on Osaka Castle grounds and played an essential role during World War II, specifically with regards to spiritual leadership. Located at Ueda Shrine in Nara Prefecture, the other is also a major pilgrimage destination and a place of deep reverence within Japanese culture.
