The gear door retainers on the TopFlite Giant Scale P-47 ARF are extremely difficult to utilize. Initially, I encountered a problem with the strut being positioned too close to the side of the wheel well, preventing the included support from encircling the strut due to its proximity to the wheel well. Another significant issue lies within the mounting procedure, which requires filing down a screw until it snugly fits against both the strut and the door simultaneously. This approach seems illogical and impractical. Whoever conceived this design should be sternly reprimanded for their flawed idea. Furthermore, I was unable to achieve a flush alignment between the gear doors and the bottom of the wing due to the excessive height of the support. As a result, I devised an alternative support bracket that can be easily snapped onto the strut and secured through pressure alone. One side of this modified support is flush with the strut, allowing it to be positioned towards the area with less clearance from the wheel well. This redesigned support has proven highly effective in my experience, boasting a remarkably simple design. Since someone requested it, I have taken the initiative to create and share this revised support bracket. Additionally, I have included an Autodesk Fusion 360 file for those interested in modifying or customizing the design further. For instance, users can adjust the length of the gripping section to achieve a tighter or looser fit around the strut. The STL files provided include three different height options (52mm, 56mm, and 60mm), allowing users to select the most suitable one for their specific setup and ensure proper gear door alignment.
