Top mount RoBo 3D Spool Holder with 608 bearings
thingiverse
I absolutely love Keraynopoylos's design, but even using Keraynopoylos's fantastic spool holder, I was consistently running into issues with the spool sticking or failing to turn, which really sucked especially after investing 18+ hours in a print. This is simply a concept at this stage. I'm still waiting for the bearings to arrive via mail before I can get started. "Left" and "right" are my own designs that enable the use of an 8mm metal or wood rod along the top. The "middle" design still requires expansion in order to accommodate various spool sizes and mxg's excellent spool holder. As for the "top," I plan to replace it with an 8mm wooden or steel rod, and if necessary, I can definitely create a design for a plastic one too - that shouldn't be a challenge at all. Update: 2014-09-28 Unfortunately, due to the fact that my printer is now situated on a wire shelf, I won't be pursuing this project further as I've since decided to hang the spool from the shelf above instead.
