Top Enclosure
thingiverse
The custom-made top enclosure is designed specifically for the Ultimaker 2 aluminum extrusion printer. The innovative design features tabs at the bottom that securely lock into the 2020 aluminum extrusion rail, making it easy to attach and detach for printing PLA or ABS filament. To add support for ABS filament and minimize warping, the enclosure can be quickly put back on after removing it to print with PLA. The 4mm clear acrylic used for the 2020 rails provides a sleek appearance while allowing for easy assembly. A small notch has been incorporated into the back right side of the design, permitting PTFE tubing entry from behind. This enables efficient cooling system installation by minimizing heat loss through small holes and ensuring smooth wire feedthrough inside the printer (as seen in photos). The versatility of this enclosure allows it to be flipped based on extruder positioning, giving users the flexibility they need. To achieve a seamless finish, Weld-On 4 was used for acrylic bonding. However, additional screw holes can be easily created in the corner mounts if needed. Special thanks are due to Jasonatepaint (who designed the printer) and Lions3 (acrylic side and front panel creators). The user is truly enjoying their printer!
