Why create such an object? As a father of three, you know firsthand how difficult it can be to get your kids to do their part in cleaning up the room or even putting away their used toothbrushes. This is my attempt at making them more enthusiastic about doing chores... with fun! Plus, I wanted to try my hand at creating a real 3D object using a CNC machine. The first step was to design an actual 3D object using Sculptris. After painting a pig's snout, I had a usable result in just a few minutes. Next, I simplified the resulting STL file in MeshLab by reducing the triangle count and then moved on to Fusion360 to create the final stand shape. I had to scale the part, cut off the top, and extrude the foot to get the desired design. This resulted in two versions: one with the relief on top and the stand extruded, and another with only the top containing the relief. I chose the latter since my material thickness was limited to 20 mm. I generated the G-code using Estlcam and made two test cuts on styrofoam and MDF before finally cutting the design on oak. A second layer gave the object its final thickness, and I used Estlcam's extrusion feature to create a smooth contour.
