BSA High Adventure Treks begin and end at our base in the high country of Philmont Ranch, where Scouts and Venturers embark on rugged trails through pine and aspen forests, explore vast canyons, and scale rugged peaks. Scouts participate in an 8-day or 12-day trek with trained wilderness experts who help guide them along their adventure-filled journey. Throughout this immersive experience, individuals take charge of a merit badge area and master vital outdoor skills, from orienteering to survival techniques, while also creating lifelong bonds with fellow crew members. To truly thrive on Philmont Ranch, scouts will require careful preparation and self-sufficiency. By selecting and planning gear in advance, developing a mental map for the journey ahead, and adhering to a daily routine of early starts and active navigation, trekkers can achieve an unparallel level of satisfaction. This epic BSA high adventure allows each Scout or Venturer to grow more self-assured while forming long-lasting relationships through teamwork and outdoor adventures that last well beyond their Philmont experience.
