Tool-less Exchangeable Spindle Vacuum Attachment
thingiverse
This is an interchangeable vacuum attachment for a spindle tool, featuring several key advantages. Notably, the component extending down to the tool is removable without tools and can be adjusted and changed, allowing different vacuum configurations depending on the specific tool in the spindle. ## Key Features * Written in OpenSCAD, so parameters can be easily customized for optimal performance. * Spindle hose tubes slide easily into clips, supporting hassle-free removal. This allows for quick tool changes in cramped spaces and easy swapping of tools with different vacuum requirements. * The tube can be laterally adjusted closer to or farther from the spindle using detents for precise alignment. * Clamps directly onto the spindle motor for a secure fit. * Spindle clamp nut is captive, making assembly easier and more convenient. ## Component Parts This versatile vacuum attachment prints in three easily assembled parts: 1. The clamp fits snugly around the spindle motor and tightens down using a screw and nut, featuring a receptacle for the vacuum hose that's slightly tapered to ensure secure fitment. 2. The clip is glued onto the clamp, providing a secure housing for the tubes to slide into. 3. The spindle vacuum tube slides into the clip and attaches with a detent for easy tool changes. ## Editing the OpenSCAD File To customize parameters, simply edit the OpenSCAD file and export STLs as needed. The file contains multiple components in module form, allowing for shared parameters between different modules and individual adjustments within each module. At the bottom of the file, commented-out lines can be uncommented to render different parts. ## Printing Instructions Before printing, check the OpenSCAD file to ensure default parameters will work for your specific setup (and edit them as needed). Key parameters include the spindle motor diameter for the clamp and the size of the attached vacuum hose. Changing these settings may require adjustments to other parameters. Print the clamp, clip, and at least one tube using PETG for added strength; flexibility is also required for the detent clips. ## Post-printing Assembly The clip and clamp need to be glued together using superglue, with corresponding raised areas on the clip aligning perfectly with cavities in the clamp. Attach the clamp to the spindle motor using a screw and nut. Applying a bit of grease to the clip and tube detents can make them fit together more easily.
