This is an Tool Change System for Openbuilds V-slot gantry platte (T3x65.5x65.5) for the Hotend/X-Axis.

The Openbuilds Gantry plate is an much more robust alternative compared to the typical creality Hotend/X-Axis gantry plates with much less compromises and much better flexibility.

While this Tool Change system is somewhat inspired by the "Quick tool change" System from proper printing, it is an completely new design, much more robust, stiffer and also without the limitations of the creality Hotend/C-Axis gantry plate. The lever of his system is a nice feature if you want to change tools often but this adds parts that compromise the stability/stiffness of the assembly and I personally don't change the Tools often. The tool connector is clamped with angles from all 4. sides.

My goal of this ToolChange system is to have it as physically stiff and robust, without any wiggle and strength compromises while still being able to change the tool in a super short time which makes also makes maintenance of the Hotend super easy. All you need is to unscrew 2x M4 screws.

The base has teeth for Belt integrated to make it as lean as possible without needing additional failure points.

The ToolChangeConnector is currently only designed for my Mellow NF-BMG-WIND Extruder+Hotend (upper holes) and also for the upcoming Phaetus TaiChi 2 in 1 out Hotend (lower holes with additional 2x Ruthex M3 brass thread inserts).

Install tutorial:

I don't plan to invest the time and effort for an step by step tutorial.

Use at your own risk.

Use common sense, this thing is easy.

Print without support.

Insert the brass thread inserts as straight as possible into the two holes for it in the base.

Sand/file things smooth that everything fits nicely but don't sand too much! You want it to slide smooth into each other without much effort but you don't want anything to be able to wiggle.

Check if you you have to relocate the X-axis sensor before your first homing.

Bill of material and required tools:

Openbuilds V-slot gantry platte T3x65.5x65.5 (Aliexpress ~5€)

2x Ruthex M4 thread inserts or similar (holes are sized for Ruthex ones!)

2x 12mm or 10mm M4 Screws

soldering iron

You have my permission to remix the ToolChangeConnector Part to fit other Hotends/Extruders and other tools, the .step file for it is included.

Print Settings

Printer:

heavily modified Ender 5 Plus

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.2mm

Infill:

25% or more

Filament:
any PLA or PETG
any

Notes:

PLA is good enough as this thing will not become hot, unless you use it in an heat-chamber.

Category: 3D Printer Parts
