TomTom Rider 550 - heavy rain cover
thingiverse
Here is a rain cover for the TomTom Rider 550 and compatible motorcycle navigation systems. This design was created by me on request from a fellow motorcyclist who needed a solution to prevent water ingress into their device during heavy rainfall. When using the TomTom Rider in rainy conditions, water can seep into the connection between the base and the device itself, causing a short circuit at the power supply connections. As a result, the device assumes the motorcycle has come to a stop and shuts down. However, when the connection is re-established, the device boots up again and resumes where it left off. To address this issue, I designed a cover that encloses the entire device and mount, keeping rainwater away from any surface that could reach the mount. The cover is designed to hold the navigation device in a portrait position, which typically provides optimal route visibility for users. A small gap between the cover and the device's body was intentionally left to accommodate a rubber lining that I glued inside the print. This lining helps dampen any vibrations from the cover onto the TomTom's body. The design includes STEP models, allowing modifications if desired by users who prefer to make changes.
