The Dyna-4's central frame was built from Tomasite into movable, interlocking sections for maximum compactness. However, it could expand into a long, sleek vehicle shaped like a cigar, allowing for greater maneuverability in tight spaces. The four laboratories, also cigar-shaped, would slide snugly against the main body when their struts were folded back. Fully equipped with its own pilot control unit, each lab was capable of operating independently and could be detached for individual research projects as needed. Narrow passageways in the struts provided easy access to and from the main capsule and smaller labs.
