Tom's Extruder
cults3d
This is a fully printable 1.75mm bowden extruder. The release lever allows for easy insertion of the filament. The filament tension is adjusted via the recessed cap screw at the rear. There is no top or bottom, the extruder can be mounted to the stepper motor for either left or right hand operation. I put a piece of foam in the filter along with a couple drops of mineral oil. This cleans and lubricates the filament. The filter is press fitted to the body. You insert it and give a slight twist to seat it. If you put foam in the filter make sure you push the filament through the filter and clean any piece of foam stuck to the tip before mating to the extruder body. I printed up a bunch of filters and leave them on the roll of filament in storage. It, at least for me, acts as the filament holder and helps prevent the filament from getting tangled. Gear teeth are 11 and 45 for a ratio of 4.090909... The adapter plate is what I use on my custom Quad CoreXY. I use a different plate for my Mendel. This is the piece that may (probably) need to be redesigned to fit your printer. I provided two parts list. One PDF where the hyperlinks don't work. The other is a Microsoft Word doc with working (I hope) hyperlinks. The list shows the bulk cost that I paid for the parts. Purchasing smaller quantities will save money. I am able to print the release lever without any support material where the idler bearing sits. Your results may vary depending on the print quality of your printer.
