Tollan Stargate inspired Infinity Mirror

This is an infinity mirror styled after the Stargate built by Tollan race, the one that appears in a single scene out of the entire show (S3 E15, Pretense). I chose this as that gate is less geometrically complex than the standard gate, making it look more like an abstract art piece to those not familiar with the show.

The gate is built upon an off-the-shelf wall mirror I found at a local homeware store, and uses a WS2812 strip with an IR controller to do all the effects. For the two-way mirror side I got some window film online and had some 3mm acrylic lasercut to match the mirror's diameter.

To help with modelling this I used David Gian-Cursio's model for initial reference, taking design liberties where necessary for 3D printing: https://www.gian-cursio.net/2006/01/stargate-model-showcase/

Here's a list of the parts used to make it:

Mirror: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8265823

LED Controller: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272910838998 (I have the IR version)

Window Film: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07BS7YGD6

Power supply: https://shop.pimoroni.com/products/5v-3a-barrel-jack-power-supply

9x M2.5x12 machine screws: http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/hardware/nuts-bolts/nut-bolt-m2.5-12

9x M2.5x6 machine screws: http://www.hobbytronics.co.uk/hardware/nuts-bolts/nut-bolt-m25-6

18x 3x20mm self-tapping screws

Printing the gate needs the following numbers of parts:

9x GateFrontSegment

9x GateChevron

9x Diffuser Segment

9x Under Segment

8x Oriented_GateRearSegment

1x Oriented_GateRearSegment_Electronics

1x GateElectronicsLid

1x GateIRCover

Also included is an optional stand for displaying the gate vertically without needing to attach it to the wall (should still be resting against a wall as it is somewhat back heavy).

I ended up having a lot of issues applying the window film to the acrylic, and even after 4 attempts ended up with bits of dust being visible (as you can see in the images). If you are going to do this I suggest practice on a smaller acrylic piece first.

Print Settings

Printer Brand:

Prusa

Printer:

i3 MK2S

Rafts:

No

Supports:

Yes

Resolution:

0.2

Infill:

10%

Filament: Prusa, Rigid.ink PLA Silver, Black, Natural, Pearl

Notes:

List of which colours were used for which parts:
* [Prusa](https://www.amazon.com/3D-Printer-Prusa/s?k=3D+Printer+Prusa&linkCode=ll2&tag=thingiverse09-20&linkId=28c787aef7c5a20cf2004b821dd161bf&language=en_US&ref_=as_li_ss_tl) Silver PLA (Non-prusament) - GateFrontSegments and GateRearSegments (Rear segments have a colour swap at 8mm from to black, but this is optional) * Rigid.ink Silver PLA - GateChevron and Stand * Rigid.ink Pearl PLA - DiffuserSegments and UnderSegments * Black PLA - GateElectronicsLid * Natural PLA - GateIRCover
Only GateFrontSegment and GateStand need supports from build plate.

Recommended to print the GateIRCover with a brim, as mine kept coming off the bed during printing without one.

Category: Decor
