I designed this tester for tolerance and clearance, combining printing speed, amplitude, and measurement continuity. Main values are readable on the scale, while intermediate values for small divisions can be read on the back with vertical writing to associate them with divisions based on position. Any potential problem related to the "elephant foot" has been eliminated, making it possible to print without using a raft if desired for better adhesion. It's also possible to print one tester for each layer thickness value: 0.12mm is suggested for high-resolution design simulations and 0.2mm for medium-resolution designs. Clearance and tolerance are measured at an angle of 45 degrees relative to the horizontal plane, taking into account precision on all three axes as a whole - a fundamental method to avoid problematic designs. The nut's writings indicate the correct use direction (do not invert it or risk serious measurement error), while the horizontal sharp notch above the writings serves as an indicator for the value of the numbered scale notches. The nut should not exhibit adhesion problems with the bolt, and both parts should be printed simultaneously as in the STL file. If detachment issues arise between them, tolerance is over 0.5mm; something likely went awry in either the Gcode file or printer settings. When using, do not apply excessive force when screwing because wear on the threads can lead to variations in real printer tolerance measurement - but modulating force will allow you to predict part behavior and make design choices accordingly. For instance, you can simulate and check break-in behavior before making final design decisions. I welcome suggestions for modifications or improvements, both to the project itself and related printing issues that may arise with other printers or slicers. Good design to all! Edit: No problems were encountered with seams due to my settings designed to avoid them. However, it's worth noting that cylindrical prints often exhibit random seams - but this shouldn't affect tolerance and clearance considerations as previously mentioned. To eliminate seam factor entirely from your measurements, a new STL file has been added where seams won't impact results. Simply set your slicer (I use Cura) to place seams on the sharpest corner so they fall within recessed areas and aren't counted in measurements. A Gcode file for printing with the Ender 3 Pro in PLA is included, allowing anyone to try using it or at least understand custom print profile modifications made. With this Gcode, a value of 0.13mm was measured. 11/13/2020 Files have been edited but functionality remains unchanged; there was a text error. The Gcode file was created with Cura 4.8, so it may differ slightly from other files calculated using older releases.
