Tokaloshe
thingiverse
This model is a 3D replica of a plaster mold that originated from a clay mask sculpted by me in the mid-90s over a bust of my own head. The original mold has been taking up space and one half was broken at some point, prompting me to consider scrapping it after hours of painstaking creation. However, I soon discovered that I could recreate it in 3D. This breakthrough led to another innovative idea: capturing the positive model from the original mold. To achieve this, I utilized a free demo version of Acute 3D's smart3Dcapture software to scan one half of the mold. After obtaining a clean 3D model, I isolated the head, inverted its faces, mirrored it on the opposite side, and then welded them together. With a reliable 3D reproduction in hand, I decided to create a short movie and model featuring this new creation. Printer Settings: Brand - Ultimaker Printer - Ultimaker 2 Rafts - No Supports - No Resolution - 0.1mm Infill - 20% Notes - This is a single-piece sculpture that should print easily without supports. Post-Printing: Since this sculpture is relatively small, I limited my post-printing work to simply applying oil paints for a rich finish. A short video showcases the creation process of the tokaloshe.
