Toilet Roll Spooler

Toilet Roll Spooler

thingiverse

This is a spool designed for winding toilet paper onto, paired with a detachable spindle that can fit snugly into a power drill for effortless winding. The idea for this design was sparked when someone gifted me an enormous industrial-sized roll of toilet paper, which couldn't possibly fit in my bathroom. I wondered, what if I could wind the paper onto a standard-sized roll instead? Initially, I thought about attaching my drill to a cardboard roll using glue, but why not just 3D print the entire thing? Captain Over Engineer comes to the rescue. The spool measures 10cm in length and 4cm in diameter, making it a common size for domestic toilet rolls. To ensure its stability, I started with a 1mm thick design, but it seemed too thin, so I increased it to 2mm. The shaft that fits into the drill is 8mm in diameter and hexagonal in shape. I've included the source file if you'd like to customize it to suit your needs. The spindle appears sturdy, but I recommend winding slowly to avoid any issues. The tension of the paper will impact how smoothly it winds, so feel free to experiment with different speeds.
