Toilet Paper Roll Extender
prusaprinters

To impress the American consumer, makers of toilet paper have been putting more and thicker paper onto the rolls. Many people can only buy toilet rolls that are so large that they will not fit in the dispenser found in their homes.

This extender kit caps the ends of the rod that the roll rests on, and gives almost an inch of extra room for even excessively oversized rolls. You will have capacity for those “mega” sized rolls, as well as a splash of color in your “W.C.” with your choice of filament.

The roll is fitted as usual on the existing rod, and with the caps in place, the spring in the rod will hold the new pegs in place on your dispenser.

Previsualizations made using PrusaSlicer and Blender.

Rev. B shortens the extension distance slightly to 22mm. This worked much better for my bathroom (see photo - in use for 18 months).

Rev. C adds one new size, tidies up the OpenSCAD text, and smooths the curved surfaces a bit.

Print instructions

Any material should be suitable. Mine is printed at 0.30mm layer height. Remember to turn supports on.

The provided .stl files are for a common size of telescoping center rod (21mm on one end, 24.5mm on the other end). The rod size and other parameters can be changed in the provided OpenSCAD file. You might want to pop the .scad file into your text editor and review all the dimensions before printing, as this is made to fit my own bathroom and yours may vary.

Need to fix the dimensions? Use OpenSCAD to make your own custom .STL files, for any size extender you need. It's free at http://openscad.org/ .
