Final Pictures uploaded !!! The final version (I think) v4 Parts have been uploaded, cleaned up as best I can too. I believe printing this one face up will be successful without support and should result in a stronger build. Additionally, a toilet paper roll has been included for anyone who needs a model to work with on their own projects. Two more changes are required before this is usable: removing some of the reinforcement bar at the top (visible in my pictures) to clear a full roll of paper and adding a couple of screw holes so it can be mounted to the wall!! My LID came out too large; it should not have been, but it was. This might be due to my PID tuning - my printer prints slightly larger than normal dimensions. On this tall print, it's noticeable, and I had to shave off a couple mm. Next time, I will try again with a clean print (nasty PLA) to confirm. I saw the toilet paper holder on Reddit from Japan where you simply pull up to remove the empty roll and insert a new one from below. It would automatically "hook in". Nothing to move or slide out; just slide in the new roll. I thought, I can design that too! In Tinkercad, I quickly sketched out a mechanical operation and then cleaned it up for final print. Printing this will take me about a day. The files are the final version, including a Simplify3D file for the frame since it has two areas requiring separate processes to keep infill low. Choose your own preference settings and retain layer starts and stops in this factory file, which is tuned for a Maker Select Wanhao I3v2 using a Flexion extruder. By accident, when I decided to make the posts stick out further before shrinking the left-right dimension of the frame, I discovered I had goofed - the cavity didn't receive the post. This turned out to be a wonderful mistake as it allowed me to fit the roll between the upturned posts without any spring sponge or rubber band; 100% gravity drive! Nice. For the mechanical prototype, I just shoved filament into the hole for the hinge. Tomorrow, I'll go get some bamboo skewers which should work perfectly and are what I designed for. This is far easier than trying to concoct a printable hinging solution - cheaper, more reliable, and serviceable if needed. This is my first slightly more complicated and functional design made from scratch. https://youtu.be/hAPula4VSBc Print Settings: Printer: Monoprice Maker Select i3v2 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2mm Infill: 5% to 15% Notes: Multi-process is a good idea for the frame's "islands" inside the cavities. No support is needed for any of the parts; you will need two posts, one frame, and one lid. If the lid and post give you problems staying on the print bed, use a raft. Good adhesion is necessary for it to stick well.
