Toggling Harpoon, Hot Springs Village, Port Moller, Alaska CAT# 2-21.15.1 is likely associated with Hot Springs 2A dating back to 100-300 CE. Japanese excavations took place in 1960. The research was described in Workman (1966) Arctic Anthropology, 3(2):132-153, and Maschner (2004) AJA 2(1-2):100-116. The Hot Springs site is a massive village situated on the shore of Port Moller, located on the Alaska Peninsula side of the southern Bering Sea. Over the last century, several different teams have conducted excavations at this site. The primary occupations date back to 2000 BCE-1000 BCE and from 100 CE to 800 CE. The Hot Springs artifacts were a result of research funded under grants NSF 0137756, 1204020, 1139266, 1321411. H. Maschner was the Principal Investigator behind this project. The original digitizing work took place at the IVL at Id. St. Univ., while subsequent processing was completed at Global Digital Heritage.
