TLC Plate Cutter
thingiverse
A versatile tool used to cut glass TLC plates into custom sizes. This device can also serve as a general-purpose glass cutting jig. Designed and printed with precision, it features a 0.4mm nozzle at a 0.25mm layer height and 30% infill without support or raft. Key hardware components include: LM8UU bearings: Available on Amazon at www.amazon.com/Printer-Bearings-JGAurora-Bearing-LM8UU/dp/B083BQKMYY/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=LM8uu&qid=1589665412&sr=8-3 8mm Smooth Rods: Purchase on Amazon at www.amazon.com/BQLZR-300mm-Cylinder-Linear-Optical/dp/B00LREEESC/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=8mm+smooth+rod+300mm&qid=1589665382&sr=8-2 Cutter Head: Find on Amazon at www.amazon.com/dp/B00BDBE2NG/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_uxyZDb6HDQDES?tag=tv-auto-20 Estimated cost is approximately $40. This design builds upon the work of nininchplate. However, I've modified it to address concerns about the stability and longevity of the original plastic rails by incorporating 8mm metal smooth rods and LM8UU bearings. The base plate consists of two separate halves that require superglue or solvent to assemble. The clip fits into notches on both sides, providing additional surface area for gluing. Two posts are also required, which can be glued in place or left unattached. For optimal results, print the carriage with the small triangle mark facing upwards to ensure a snug fit of the scribe holder. Insert LM8UU bearings into the round holes, taking care not to overtighten. If necessary, use tape to shim or apply glue for a secure fit. The slider plate, which supports the TLC plate, is divided into four separate parts to accommodate most print beds. Some minor sanding may be required to achieve a smooth finish. For larger printers that can accommodate 205x205mm plates, consider using the slider_onepiece part instead. Engraved ruler marks are positioned 1cm apart on the sides. The colored effect achieved in this design is created by switching to a different colored filament for the final two layers. If printing difficulties arise, consider substituting this part with a 2mm styrene sheet.
