TKO Cryptex
thingiverse
The graduation gift was a cryptex given to the class of 2017 by my robotics team. We wrote thank-you notes on paper and packed them into the cryptex to be handed out during our end-of-year banquet. The code is set to spell 1-3-5-1, but you can customize it with ring placement. Enjoy! --- UPDATE (June 2019) - I converted files to millimeters. - I added a supports version. See Post-Printing for instructions on both versions (glue or supports). - I fixed a discrepancy in Ring 3 with the depth of the numbers. The purple cryptex is the supports version, and the teal one is glue. You can see the difference in the bottom piece, as the supports version has cutouts that allow the rings to pass through. ORIGINAL (February 2018) I made the model in inches, so for most printing applications it will need to be scaled up by 25.4. I primarily printed with PLA and ABS but it should work just as well with other related materials. The printing time for each part is about one hour. In total, it takes somewhere around four to eight hours to print everything. I designed the top assembly in two pieces to remove the need for supports, and separated the bottom assembly to keep the rings in place with superglue.
With this file you will be able to print TKO Cryptex with your 3D printer. Click on the button and save the file on your computer to work, edit or customize your design. You can also find more 3D designs for printers on TKO Cryptex.
