This is an idea for a silencer that you fill with a cotton ball or Scott towel - something I've tried in the past when using an airsoft gun. To my surprise, this suppressed the sound of compressed air pretty effectively. If you'd like to adapt this design to your needs, I'm providing a Solidworks 2015 file. Update March 26th, 2015: A print failed to meet expectations, and modifications are underway. I've decided to switch from a 3 mm diameter filament to 1.75 mm and refine the design. April 22nd, 2015 Update: The necessary materials have arrived, allowing me to swap over to the new diameter. Upon printing, sanding was done lightly to achieve a press fit - further calibration is needed. Up next: testing. Given my experience so far, I believe this should be able to suppress at least half of the noise produced by compressed air. Print two pieces as instructed below.
