Tipperary Folk Art Project - Thurles - Cat
sketchfab
Located at Pillar St Bridget's church site and graveyard (TN041-042003) in Thurles, a distinctive carving stands out - a crouched cat with two tails carved into a rectangular shaped block. Positioned on the left side of the block is the head, while the tails are carved on the right side. The face of this feline figure boasts a triangular shape, complete with sharp-pointed teeth protruding from the upper jaw. One tail rests comfortably on the cat's back, while the other points towards its head and aligns itself along the back legs. This intricate carving was created for an Irish Folk Art project, generously funded by Roisin O'Grady, Tipperary Heritage Officer.
