thingiverse
Making a kid's loom is an easy project that teaches several things: among patience and endurance, kids learn the basic principle of how fabrics are made and they don't necessarily have to be manufactured in a factory. With my design, I deliberately avoided overcomplicating the construction. The interlocking parts form a sturdy frame on their own. No reed or other system for lifting the warp is needed. The build itself is perfect for beginners. I used 6.2 mm thick beech plywood that comes exactly to size and milled it with a 2 mm spiral-toothed endmill. The comb and shuttle were cut from 4 mm beech plywood. Thickness isn't crucial, but 6 mm might be too thick for this purpose. The parts of the frame are held together by glue. A nice finish would have been some mineral oil (but my daughter was too impatient for it to dry). Visit https://www.zenziwerken.de/en/ for more interesting designs.
