I had an old small 90mm drone that needed a serious makeover. So I got to work, crafting some ducts and putting them to the test. The version with the largest ducts managed to barely lift off with a tiny battery, but I knew I could do better. I stripped about four grams of weight from the frame and now it's flying smoothly with a 550mAh battery. This drone relies on eight-and-a-half millimeter motors, which don't fit as snugly as you'd like. But that's not the only thing that needs attention – some added protection for those bottom motors would be a big plus. In terms of weight, this drone checks in at roughly the same level as the QX90 with its square frame.
