This is the basic ring and clip set for the Tinkerlight system. Creating a lamp from this set demands the lamp hardware kit, along with your own 3D design expertise. This set is designed for individuals who want to create their own unique design for a lamp that works seamlessly with the Tinkerlight hardware. Three complete designs have been posted to Thingiverse as well. You can attach the clip to your lamp design in your preferred 3D design software and print out the results along with the mount ring. When creating your own lamp design, some crucial considerations must be taken into account concerning heat. 3D plastic filament melts at a relatively low temperature. The LED used by the hardware kit generates a substantial amount of heat. The PCB gets hot enough to melt printed filament over most of its surface (and possibly burn a finger!). The mounting ring designed for this application holds the PCB only by its edges and provides ample air flow around the PCB while keeping fingers away (at least from the back side). Thus, the LED module should be used mounted in the ring specifically designed for it. Also, the heat generated by the LED could soften or melt printed filament directly above it. Leave at least two inches of open airspace above the LED if you are mounting it similarly to the Tinkerlight Rocket Lamp design (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1478138) and include vent holes near the top of your design. The light source supplied with the kit is a neutral white (4000-4500k) LED that consumes 2.25 watts (450ma at 5 volts). The desk lamp parts will print on most printers without supports, using a 6x6x6 build platform. ABS is recommended for its higher heat resistance, but the lamp will work with PLA as well.
