Tin Whistle in D - Mouthpieces
prusaprinters

My dad plays the irish Tin Whistle in a folk band, and his mouthpiece died a while ago, so I offered to print new ones for him… And ended up reading a ton of books & scientific papers on the acoustics of flutes, so there are 3 variations here, tested by him and approved for different purposes (descriptions are from him) ! :)

They were printed in .2mm layers, 15%filled (but I'm not sure with the walls that it wasn't 100%), and they were designed to be printed without support : support might help a little for the upper walls, but it tends to damage the labium (the lower “blade” on which the air arrives that allows for the whistle to work) and hence makes them unusable. So in my experience here, better have not-so-perfect bridges but a better sound ! :)
With this in mind, the model is also designed for .4mm extrusion, in order to get one clean line for the labium. I'll experiment with tinier nozzle sizes eventually, as it might make things even better, but if you want a version quickly and don't feel like remixing it yourselves, pm me I'll gladly take the time if you provide feedback. :)

Be aware that you might end up with failed ones, as one tiny dent in the labium makes the sound really worse and the whistle way harder to blow.

Variations are very tiny details, but they make a big difference (size of the window, angles of attack, width of the blowing chamber…).

I'll very certainly upload upgrades & versions for tin whistles of different tunings & diameters in the future, as it got me hooked and it's a very fun modelling & 3D-printer experience for me… :)

The original files were done with Onshape (free version) so feel free to pm me if you want to modify them &/or discuss physics, I'll happily share the links &/or export other extensions to get feedback !
