My wife owns an older model of one of these intricate quilting machines, a tin lizzie, located at http://tinlizzie18.com/. The newer models come equipped with a laser feature. This mount is designed to be placed over the bar to attach a laser pointer to the older machine. It can easily be reversed so it can be used on either side, allowing you to switch sides as you work. It's made to fit one of the pen-type laser pointers that runs on two AAA batteries. You will need something to keep it turned on - I use this switch: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:956525.
