Time Unveiling Truth at The Louvre, Paris
myminifactory
The allegory of Time and Truth took flight in painting during the Renaissance, a fairly uncommon subject in art, before making its way into sculpture as late as the 19th Century. In this allegory, Truth is depicted as a proud young woman whose fair, voluptuous beauty is revealed by the dark, gnarled figure of Father Time. Time's chariot and scythe symbolize death, while the snake, parrot, and mirror Truth holds represent her enemies: sensuousness, vanity, and deceit. Truth's emblem, the sun, shines above, with all earthly things lying at her feet. Other artworks that depict the complex allegory of Time Unveiling Truth include paintings by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and Bronzio.
