Distinguished by their all-black flight suits and bulky, fully enclosed helmets, the Galactic Empire at its peak produced millions of TIE pilots and generally considered them expendable assets. The TIE pilots formed the vanguard of the Imperial Navy's Flight Branch. They were referred to as "bucketheads" by Rebel pilots due to their cumbersome helmets. Within the Imperial forces, they were often referred to as "coffin jockeys" due to the high mortality rate of those manning vulnerable TIE fighters. Among the pilots, they were known as "vac-heads" and "ground-hogs," referencing their roles in the Navy and Army, respectively, due to a significant rivalry between the two factions. *************************** When I created my Tie Pilot Cosplay costume, this was the only component I struggled to find. The theory is that the tie pill box originally served as a record player stylus box/container from the 1970s. A recent Propstore auction featured a TIE pilot helmet with a clear lid and white-painted edge, which resembled the original stylus boxes. If you don't want to create your own, simply find one of these containers and apply some paint. If you prefer to make your own, here's a model for you. Measurements - 60 x 38 x 8 mm Enjoy!
