Tie Fighter for Casual X-Wing Gaming

thingiverse

This scaled model of a Tie Fighter is perfect for casual battles in X-Wing miniatures games, allowing you to experiment with complex strategies such as swarming multiple units. Based on this original Sketchup model: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model.html?redirect=1&mid=b1e84cdbad9e36e6c5bf2187ab45ccd, Katase's brilliant design is reimagined here with enhanced features for better printability. The internal framework was stripped to its essentials, and the solar fins were replaced with a more straightforward design that facilitates thickness control. Additionally, I added a standard X-Wing base connector at the bottom of the model, ensuring it remains securely attached through the large stem. Although some cleanup work is still required, the current state allows for successful printing using Simplify3D software. For improved print results, follow this procedure: begin by setting two processes in Simplify3D and specifying a starting layer thickness of 0.3mm, with subsequent layers reduced to 0.1mm for better details. Activate manual support generation within the software to prevent unnecessary material consumption and use a small drill bit to clear out the receptacle area after the print is complete. To optimize the printing process further, employ custom rafts as supporting structures and allow at least three or four models to be printed simultaneously for faster cooling time.
