After an incredible 6 years together, it is finally time to ask my girlfriend for her hand in marriage. What better way than with my own parametrically designed 3D printed engagement ring??

The central design element, the wave, serves as a subtle visual reminder that a long-term relationship has its ups and downs. It takes compromises and flexibility to ensure a great and lasting partnership.

The design was parametrically written in Grasshopper for Rhino (see screenshot attached). Scaling the model is possible directly in the slicer, although I would recommend choosing the correct size from the uploaded files. I have added the most common sizes from 3 (14mm inner diameter) to 13.5 (22.6mm inner diameter).

Printing:

The model was designed for standard FDM printing, with a 0.4mm nozzle. The attached images show the model printed with a 0.4 nozzle on the Prusa MK3S+ in Galaxy Silver PLA, eMarble PLA and white PLA. The results are very consistent with various materials. The standard Prusa Slicer profile “0.10mm DETAIL” works fantastically for this model. I do recommend applying glue stick to the bed, however, as the ring has relatively small base surface area.

Nozzle: 0.4 is fine (0.25 is better)

Layer Height: 0.1 mm

Supports: None

Infill: 100% (the model prints fast, so I prefer stability over saving time here)
