These intricate models closely resemble the actual Ticonderoga Class Cruisers. Their size is due to the detailed features. Including in this model are animatable weapons such as Harpoon missiles, 5" automatic gun turrets, various radar and radio receiver antennas, propellers, and rudders. It is available in multiple formats on this site. Known as Aegis cruisers by the media, these ships were the first to be equipped with advanced weapons control systems. Originally, they were developed as modified Spruance Class vessels, but the US Navy reclassified them as Guided Missile Cruisers when the Aegis System was integrated. From the 1970s through the early 1990s, a total of 28 Ticonderoga Class ships were constructed. The second variant boasted upgraded electronics and redesigned superstructures, as seen in Cruisers CG49-CG58. In the third variation (CG59-CG73), enhanced missile launch systems were added, including VLS Vertical Launch systems. These ships are now an integral part of the Navy's surface fleet striking force.
