Tibetan Pagoda
thingiverse
The story unfolds like this: I received a season pass for Disney World on Christmas, and made my way to Animal Kingdom towards the end of January. While strolling along one of the trails to visit animal exhibits, I noticed each corner featured these little, 2-3 foot tall pagodas set up as lights or lanterns along the path, yet they remained unlit. I figured it was a failed attempt by Disney, but they left the pagodas intact. I snapped pictures of many of them and decided to try modeling a few. In the end, I spent over 6 hours crafting one model just to capture all the intricate details in the filigree on top. The result is what you see here. CAUTION: Be aware that the Hi-Poly files are enormous and may freeze your Slic3r for a while. It's recommended that you only use them if you plan to upscale the model by 200% or more. I have printed each part individually, but haven't attempted to print the entire piece at once. The design is intended to be printed as one whole unit (take a look at the 3D view of the top stepped piece to see the cavity inside and avoid using supports). There's also a two-part version labeled "TwoPart" that should alleviate complications with the top of the piece becoming distorted (print the top and bottom together in one go). I've already released a Rev B of the Two Part lower, which fixes a chamfered edge that would have caused your printer to bridge a 2cm gap. Keep an eye out for more pagodas coming soon... Print Settings: Printer: Folger Tech Kossel Rev B Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.2 or better Infill: 20% Notes: It has some steep overhang, so ABS and equivalent materials may experience issues.
