Thunderbird 5
thingiverse
One of the classic Thunderbirds by Gerry Anderson, based on a design by Simon C., can be found online at 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com. This model has been optimized for FDM printers, with both high-resolution and reduced-resolution "plated" versions available. Additionally, separate files are provided for the top, bottom, and antenna groups, making it easy to customize the print. To prepare the model for printing, consider removing the antennae and adding supports to ensure smooth prints. The lower-res plated version has already been modified to make it 3D-printer ready. In 2015, the model was updated with thicker antennae to improve printability. Print settings include: MakerBot Replicator 2 printer No rafts required No supports needed 0.14 mm resolution 5% infill with at least three shells To assemble the model, glue the top and lower antenna tower to the bottom part. Note that the model is not designed to balance on the lower antenna tower. A clear plastic tube can be used as a stable stand by positioning it just behind the lower antenna. The antenna struts can be made from straightened paperclips snipped into three pieces, inserted into the provided holes, and then attached to the printed antenna parts. The model was originally printed in silver PLA and painted with acrylics.
