Thumbwheel for M3 Locknut, Printrbot Simple bed leveling
thingiverse
When installing my Simple 1401's GT2 belt conversion, I inadvertently inverted the bed leveling screws and substituted the standard 20mm screws for sturdier 22mm versions, which necessitated tightening the lock nut to the top, thereby forcing me to rely on a wrench to adjust the bed level. Frustrated by this cumbersome process, I created these adjustable thumb wheels to enable quick, finger-based adjustment of the locknuts. Slim enough to effortlessly pass under my right-side fan, these custom thumb wheels also remain well above the glass print surface used with the 3D printer. Although they were initially designed for secure, unshakeable attachment, and could easily accommodate removal by sliding the glass from beneath them as needed, I am increasingly concerned that repeated use might subtly loosen the bed screws due to minor stress on them while repositioning the print surface with each print session; as such, to mitigate potential issues, I have since made a point of carefully removing all the thumb wheels once the bed level is set, and re-attaching them only when absolutely necessary.
