Thumb Screw Cap
thingiverse
I needed a way to convert a small bolt or nut into a thumb screw. My solution was to create a little cap that slips over the head of a bolt or nut, giving a round knurled edge for finger tightening. The cap simply slides over the nut or bolt head, providing a knurled knob for finger tightening the thread. You'll need the Knurled Surface Library v2 by aubenc on Thingiverse to complete this project. The sample STL file is designed for a 1/4-20 nut or bolt with the following specifications: * Bolt thread outer diameter: 6.5mm * Nut/bolt head width (flat to flat): 11.1mm * Base of cap features a 2mm thick boss A scad file is also included, allowing you to customize the cap for any size. // +++ Definable Variables: +++ // Default values create a cap for a 1/4-20 nut that is 16mm in diameter and 10mm long, with a 2mm thick boss at the bottom of the cap knob_od = 16; // Overall diameter of knob knob_lg = 10; // Overall length of knob nut_wd = 11.2; // Width of nut flat to flat (add 0.1 to measured) bolt_dia = 6.6; // Bolt thread outer diameter (add 0.1 to measured) nut_land = 2; // Width between nut and outside (boss meat at the bottom of the cap) // +++ End Definable Variables +++
