While fine-tuning my Thrustmaster Warthog setup for Elite:Dangerous gaming sessions, I discovered just how reliant I was on my trusty old HOTAS center detent for consistently dropping ships to zero throttle. Upon scouring the web for a reliable free throttle insert piece that could replicate this functionality and enable full-range throttle (-100% to 100% thrust) control, I decided to roll up my sleeves and design one myself based on existing models found on Thingiverse. This custom-designed insert boasts two detents: one at 0% throttle and another at 75% throttle, optimized for supercruise flight time optimization. Both detents are remarkably light, with the 0% detent proving particularly effective when approached from a negative thrust angle and the 75% detent performing best when approached from full thrust. I printed this model in PLA, but its long-term durability remains to be seen. If issues arise, I'll either print another one if it proves durable enough or experiment with more resilient materials like ABS or PETg. To achieve a smooth throttle surface, I recommend printing this design at 0.1mm or smaller layer heights on its side, utilizing supports and a brim for optimal adhesion. Revision: A new version featuring only the 0% detent has been added to the mix. Additionally, I suggest setting the zero band in the TARGET software to around three units to allow for some flexibility in the print/model's design.
