I've been using this setup for over four months now without any problems. To accommodate the cable I purchased, which was slightly larger than the original, I've made the area where it passes through bigger. The stick I designed and printed also fits perfectly into place. While buying a PVC pipe might have been an option to achieve similar results, I'm satisfied with this solution as it provides around 10 cm of extra length - more than enough in my opinion.
