To locate the mini magnets that attach the build platform to the y-axis, I opted for throwie magnets available at the local hacker space. The build platform consists of 1/8" acrylic pieces, except for the build surface which is recommended to be made from plywood to reduce weight. This design can be modified for different magnet sizes but stronger magnets may add extra load on the y-axis bearings. Older MakerBot models with 1/8" thick wood piece may need modifications, and 16mm long M3 bolts should be replaced with 20mm ones for proper fitting in the bearing housing pieces. Despite these adjustments, the bot operated fine without longer bolts.
