I've been listening to Thrice for almost twenty years now. The band's sound has undergone an incredible transformation over time, and I'm constantly amazed by their creative evolution. Their latest album, Palms, features stunning artwork designed by the talented Jordan Butcher from Studio Workhorse. To learn more about Thrice, visit http://thrice.net/. To achieve a painted look, I employed a combination of convex and concave surfaces. This allowed the printed layer lines to resemble brush strokes, adding texture and depth to the design. Here are the components, settings, and materials I used: Palms_Background_Black - 1 needed; 15% infill; .2mm layer resolution; MatterHackers PRO PLA Black (I'm eager to try Prusament Galaxy Black once it arrives). Palms_Outline_Tan - 1 needed; .2mm Layer resolution; PushPlastic Desert Tan Palms_Circles_Tan - 6 needed; 15% infill; .2mm Layer resolution; PushPlastic Desert Tan Palms_Circles_Grey - 6 needed; 15% infill; .2mm Layer resolution; PushPlastic Dark Grey Palms_Circle_Red - 1 needed; 15% infill; .15mm Layer resolution; Solutech Real Red To ensure a successful print, be sure to fine-tune your first layer settings. If the first layer is too compressed, you may encounter difficulty inserting all the circles. It's helpful to inspect and clean up the bottom edges before adding the circles and outline to the background. Always let parts cool before removing them from the build plate. You can also experiment with layer resolution to adjust the texture of the surfaces. Note: In the future, I plan to divide the background file into separate components, making it possible to print this design at a larger scale. Assembly: Begin by installing the Tan Circles, followed by the Grey Circles, then the Tan Outline, and finally the central Red Circle. The back features two built-in mounting points, allowing you to easily hang your creation on a wall. If you decide to build one of these 3D album covers, please share a picture!
