
Three-Axis-Router / 3D-Printer / CNC

This is a Three-Axis-Router. I designed it during my bachelor thesis, where it functioned as both a 3D-printer and CNC-mill/drill, with other tools like a laser also possible to integrate. The detachable printhead can be replaced by a mount for a rotational tool, offering versatility in the machine's capabilities. For milling purposes, I utilized a proxxon machine with an extension attached, but users can modify the provided .scad-files to design a custom mount that fits their specific device. In its current configuration, the Three-Axis-Router reaches a maximum speed of 24mm/s, but at higher speeds it encounters issues with losing steps, and noise levels are also a concern. By upgrading to better stepper drivers than those used in my initial setup, these problems can be effectively addressed. Furthermore, the frame must be reinforced with MDF plates to ensure stability and prevent damage from excessive forces. Additional assembly instructions can be found within the dreiachsenrouter.scad file. The machine is designed to handle tools weighing up to 1kg, making it suitable for various tasks. I employed an Arduino-Mega2560 controller paired with a ramps-shield running Marlin software for control purposes. The display mount was adapted from Trigubovich's design, accessible at Thingiverse under the reference number 1116163.
