Three axes hinge with lock mechanism
grabcad
A 3D printed hinge design is presented which utilizes PolyJet technology and ABS material. The bottom part can lock at two positions, 90 degrees and unfolded, using a "key" mechanism combined with a push button. The locked position of the button is maintained by the elastic properties of ABS. To lock back in position at 180 or 90 degrees, simply press the button while rotating the hinge. This unique design offers several advantages: it employs complex geometries that can only be achieved through 3D printing; it ensures efficient use of materials as weight/material relief is possible without extra cost or time; and it allows for easy manufacturing changes, thanks to expressions that simplify the adaptation process. Additionally, a distinctive feature enables customization by altering the distance between holes, which automatically adjusts other hinge dimensions, tube size, and keyhole count. This adaptability can accommodate various loads and dimensions in just two clicks. Hole diameter, thickness, and material removal amount are also modifiable. The software used for this feature is NX; its compatibility with other software is uncertain. Feedback is welcome to further optimize the design.
