Threaded Film Canisters

Threaded Film Canisters

thingiverse

This is a basic set of threaded film canisters, with knurled and non-knurled variants. The knurled variants are a fair bit thicker (using more plastic, but also more robust). The canister bottoms are available with / without alignment pins. The canister lids are available either with an open top or a top with a recess for the 35mm film roll end. As a bonus, I also included a 100 mm tall (twice as high) version of the smooth canister without alignment pin. The versions with alignment pins / recesses are the basic filenames; the smooth ones say "_no_alignment". These were designed in OpenSCAD and the files are included – they are all similar, with slight differences depending on the versions above. These are quick and dirty, so I haven't generalized it with variables (but feel free to remix!). Note this is using a branch of threadlib that allows adding tolerances to the threads, so if you re-render without that the fit will be tighter. Finally, I'll note: Film canisters are mostly a solved problem already, and the ones that come with 35mm film use less plastic. These are created more as a curiosity and potentially as a way to package small gifts / a roll of film if you have a friend who's a hobbyist photographer.
