This is a mounting system designed for quick assembly, where small extrusions on the fastener engage pre-drilled holes in the stock material, securing the threading in place. It's highly recommended that you also apply glue to ensure a tight seal. Once the fastener is securely attached, another piece of stock or material can be added and a bolt driven into its threads to hold both pieces firmly together.
