Thread Cutter

Thread Cutter

My wife is an avid quilter who devotes a significant amount of time to sewing pairs of fabric together. To make her task easier, I designed this solution specifically for her (and the Silicon Valley Modern Quilt Guild) - one that facilitates seamless cutting of threads while chain piecing (check out how it works in this video: https://youtu.be/cniQfTWOyYI). This table-mounted device exposes a small portion of a razor blade, allowing for quick cuts with minimal risk of finger injury. As always, standard disclaimer: razor blades are sharp and can cause injury if mishandled, even in this carefully designed setup. I opted for a generic single-edge razor blade to ensure easy replacement when it becomes dull. The press-fit nut design I employed was inspired by this link: http://www.instructables.com/id/3D-Print-captured-nuts-without-pausing-your-print/. For the nut and screw, I used a #6-32 x 3/4” combo from Home Depot (Everbilt round head, SKU 528466), and happened to select Stanley single-edge razor blades. However, my design is intended to be versatile enough for most standard single-edge blades. This marks my first Thingiverse posting, so I'm eager to receive feedback on both the design itself and how I presented it here.
