Thread cutter to cordless screwdriver adapter
prusaprinters

For an ongoing project, a 1:10 scale skid loader, I need to drive a lot of M3 threads into the PETG parts. The PETG is not very hard to cut, but at some point in time my hand got tired this morning. That was when I started to think about putting the thread cutter into my cordless screwdriver. Unfortunately someone back in time has decided that thread cutters shall have a square tooling end, while cordless screw drivers and power drills have a three-edge drill chuck which fits to hexagonal bits.

This little thingy solves the problem by utilizing a hexagonal ending on one side and a 3mm square fixture for M3 thread cutters on the other side.

With the internal metal square nut and the M3x8 screw that presses onto the thread cutter, the whole thing is very robust and should even allow cutting threads into metal, I would guess. (If you make this thing and manage to cut threads into metal, please leave a post below.)

The whole setup works very well with PETG, just print the core diameter of your M3 screw hole to the correct size of 2.6mm and you will get very nice threads. But don't get carried away, if you cut the threads too fast with the cordless screwdriver, the PETG will warm up and the thread will not become as nice as it can be.

Have fun and save time by using this little tool.

Print instructions

Category: Machine Tools Print Settings

Printer Brand: Prusa

Printer: I3 MK3S

Rafts: No

Supports: No

Resolution: 0,15mm

Infill: 100%

Filament: DasFillament.de PETG silver
Notes:

Put the thing on the big diameter on the threat cutter side and it will print just fine. The pockets for the square nut and the thread cutter are deep enough to avoid problems from the small 2-3mm overhangs inside the pockets.
