Thread cutter to cordless screwdriver adapter
thingiverse
For a current project, I need to drive numerous M3 threads into PETG parts. The PETG is relatively easy to cut, but my hand got tired while cutting this morning. At that point, I considered putting the thread cutter into my cordless screwdriver. Unfortunately, someone in the past decided that thread cutters should have a square tooling end, whereas cordless screwdrivers and power drills feature a three-edge drill chuck designed for hexagonal bits. This little adapter solves the problem by using a hexagonal end on one side and a 3mm square fixture for M3 thread cutters on the other. With the internal metal square nut and the M3x8 screw that presses onto the thread cutter, the entire setup is very robust and should even allow cutting threads into metal. The whole system works well with PETG when you print the core diameter of your M3 screw hole to 2.6mm. This results in very nice threads. However, be cautious not to cut the threads too quickly with the cordless screwdriver, as this can cause the PETG to warm up and the thread quality will suffer. This little tool is sure to save time and make the process enjoyable.
