thread creation exercise
thingiverse
In Design Spark Mechanical, a small container and two soda bottle cap containers were used to test thread creation. The base cylinder diameter for the bolt was 12.5mm while the inside cylinder diameter for the nut was 13mm. Faces were placed 0.5mm inside the base cylinder (not using the entire face) and can be found in the DesignSpark file, with smaller one used for the bolt and larger for the nut to add margin. A 45-degree angle was utilized instead of the normal metric thread's 30-degree angle for better printability. Instructions on how to do this were obtained from http://www.rs-online.com/designspark/electronics/eng/knowledge-item/designspark-mechanical-thread-creation.
