Thorens TD160 78rpm mod
thingiverse
The Thorens TD 160 uses a mains synchronous motor paired with a double pulley to switch between 33 and 45 rpm. This same setup applies to other Thorens turntables as well. To play shellacs at 78rpm, I created an adapter pulley that fits onto the original molden pulley without needing any further modifications. Simply attach the extension to the existing pulley and secure it with a belt. The speed selector must be switched from its normal setting to the off position, then moved over to 33 rpm. To return to standard 33/45rpm operation, simply remove the adapter pulley and revert back to using the original one. Before playing shellacs, ensure you have a cartridge with a stylus designed for larger grooves installed. Standard stereo cartridges are not suitable for this task.
