The Thompson submachine gun, commonly known as the Tommy Gun, was invented by General John T. Thompson in 1920. This American-made firearm quickly became infamous during the U.S. Prohibition era from 1920 to 1933 due to its widespread use by gangsters. Despite this notoriety, it is often mistakenly believed that the Thompson submachine gun was the first of its kind. Weighing around 10 pounds or 4.5 kilograms when empty, the Tommy Gun fired .45-calibre ammunition and could hold up to 50 rounds in a circular drum magazine or 20-30 rounds in a box magazine. The U.S. Army officially adopted this firearm in 1928, and it saw service with both the American and British armies during World War II. Other military forces have also used this submachine gun at various times. A 3D model of the Thompson submachine gun is available, featuring a detachable magazine. This digital representation has been optimized for use in 3D modeling software, including Autodesk Maya 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 versions. The model can be exported as an obj or fbx file format. The textures used for this model include a diffuse map with specular details in the alpha channel, a normal bump map, and other relevant image files in TGA, BMP, and PNG formats.
